The Museum of Risorgimento and Resistance is closely linked to the moral and cultural life, as well as to the traditions of the city and its land. The institute hosts a series of memories of the Italian history and of the main characters involved in the historical events of the city. Villa Guiccioli, the building hosting this museum, is located on the top of the Ambellicopoli hill; in 1848, this hill was theatre of the historical resistance of the people of Vicenza and other volunteers coming from different Italian Regions, fighting to defend the city.

The collections of the Museum are a unique national heritage and they include interesting and different pieces: the main core of documentation includes press releases, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, portraits, paintings, prints, diaries, bans and proclamations, decrees, private deeds, coins, medals and decorations, geographical and military maps, melee and ranged weapons, flags and various military equipment.

All these pieces are historically interconnected: the documents and antiques of the collections are an historical proof of the most relevant events of Vicenza, Italy and Europe; among these, there are pieces dating back to the first Napoleonic campaign in 1796, the end of the First World War and the struggle for liberation in 1945; more than half a century of events that changed the political, social and economic panorama in Italy and Europe.
The most attractive and valuable collection is, undoubtedly, the Gabriele Fantoni Collection, donated to the city of Vicenza in different stages between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

The Fantoni Collection of National Risorgimento explores the historical events of Veneto - from the end of the 18th century to the 19th century – through several official deeds (announcements, notifications and proclamations) issued by the political, juridical and administrative power of the Venice authorities between 1848 and 1849. Among the rest, the museum also exhibits autographs and papers that shed a new light on the unknown biographies of many people who defended the lagoon city during the Austrian siege. Special attention also goes to the other collections of patriotic hymns, poems and songs, some of which unreleased, written by minor authors, which give the visitors a hint on the popular patriotic sentiment of that time.
Along with these pieces, there are full collections of Venetian periodicals and newspapers published in 1848-1849. Finally, the printed materials also include more than 4,000 rare booklets published in the second half of the 19th century.

The Library of the institute offers various book collections and historical magazines on different subjects and topics dating back to different historical periods: Napoleonic period, Risorgimento and First and Second World War. These pieces are available to the public for consultation by prior appointment.
